Andrew Warhola was born in 1928, in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. He majored in pictorial design at the Carnegie Institute of Technology. When he graduated he moved to New York where he started working as a commercial artist and illustrator for several magazines, Vogue, The New Yorker, and Harper’s Bazaar. In the 1950’s, Warhola had a successful job as a commercial artist, earning several awards for his talents and soon shortens his name to Warhol (Andy Warhol // Biography). Andy Warhol was an American artist who was known as a leading figure in the visual art movement in pop art. He explored the relationships between artistic expressions, commercial advertisement, and celebrity culture in the 1960s and beyond. Some of his most popular paintings that he was known for was that was made by silk-screened portraits were of celebrities for example, Marilyn Monroe and Chairman Mao of China were some of the few famous paintings that led him to his desire to produce paintings faster, learning and teaching new techniques to world. Andy Warhol’s art career started out with commercial art, where he made illustrations, using new techniques that influenced other artists in America and is what made Warhol famous today. In the 1960’s Warhol started to use more techniques such as, the silkscreen method and decided to make paintings of celebrities for example, Marilyn Monroe. In America, mass media centered on Pop Art and used many images from the media, coming from popular culture and advertisement. Andy Warhol’s art had a great impact on America, but also expanded and advertised not only pop art but also pop music and helped others become known in America. Warhol’s art was defined as pop art because of the style and how he made it known for. His style of art was defining who he was and by the way he made things pop out in America by unique style.
